Blair Brothers to Score TOXIC AVENGER Reboot

Peter Dinklage and his toxic alter-ego

THE TOXIC AVENGER is an upcoming American superhero comedy horror film, written and directed by Macon Blair. The film serves as a reboot and “contemporary reimagining” of the 1984 film of the same name, and the fifth installment overall in its film franchise. The film is produced by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, who produced the previous films in the franchise, and stars Peter Dinklage as the titular character. In this iteration of the character, a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends, and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.

Composers Brooke Blair & Will Blair (GREEN ROOM, VAMPIRES VS. THE BRONX, BLACK CHRISTMAS, NIGHT STALKER: THE HUNT FOR A SERIAL KILLER) are reteaming with writer/director/actor Macon Blair to score the film, which also stars Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Julia Davis and Elijah Wood. The movie is based on Troma Entertainment’s 1984 cult classic of the same title which “spawned three sequels, a stage musical, a videogame, and a children’s cartoon series with an accompanying action figure line,” as Marco Vito Oddo wrote last year in an early report on the film for Collider.com.

The composers have previously scored the filmmakers’s directorial debut I DON’T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE and also composed the music for several other films he wrote and produced. No release date has been set yet for THE TOXIC AVENGER.

“The original Toxic Avenger was a hero of the people, fighting corrupted politicians, pimps of underaged girls, bullies, and, wait for it, the Devil himself,” wrote Collider’s Oddo. “We should all be excited about the remake, especially given the excellent work [the Blairs] did with GREEN ROOM and I DON’T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE. Also, The Toxic Avenger became a phenomenon long before superheroes were the bread and butter of Hollywood, so it will be interesting to know how the trash hero will fit in the new pop culture landscape.”
