Tom Holkenborg Scores George (MAD MAX) Miller’s Genie Fantasy

THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING is a 2022 fantasy film co-written and directed by George Miller (MAD MAX series, BABE: PIG IN THE CITY, HAPPY FEET 1 & 2). An adaptation of the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by A. S. Byatt, the film stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. The film is about Dr. Alithea Binnie (Swinton), an academic and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she encounters a Djinn (Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Eventually, she makes a wish that surprises them both.

The film is being scored by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL). He previously scored Miller’s MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and is known for composing the music for DEADPOOL, TERMINATOR: DARK FATE, ZACH SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, GODZILLA VS KONG, ARMY OF THE DEAD, THE 355, and much more. In addition to Holkenborg’s score, this film will also feature an original song recorded by Italian tenor/singer/songwriter Matteo Bocelli (son of opera star Andrea Bocelli), according to filmmusicreporter. A soundtrack the film’s music is said to be due on August 31st.

The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2022, earning the director and his cast a six-minute standing ovation, according to a report in Variety. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 31, 2022, by United Artists Releasing.
