Safan’s Phantom Score Unmasked

Craig Safan’s Complete Original Score for 2019 Commission & Performance of Lon Chaney 1925 PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Now Showing on YouTube

A few years back, composer Craig Safan (THE LAST STARFIGHTER,  SON OF THE MORNING STAR, STAND AND DELIVER) was commissioned to write an original score the1925 silent film version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, starring Lon Chaney, which premiered at “Opera at the Shore” on July 11, 2019, where The Marina del Rey Symphony performed a live-to-picture medley of the music accompanying scenes from the movie.

Safan has now posted his complete score, to picture, on YouTube. Enjoy Craig’s powerful orchestra score for PHANTOM here.

Sample this clip from the famous unmasking scene. Safan builds tremendous tension and culminates with shock, repulsion, and even a bit of sympathy for the Phantom as the sequence plays out.
